Navigate by Norman Vincent Peale

"The best thing to do id to get healed of negatives in life, become filled with faith" hence goes the words by Dr Peale as it appears n the introduction of the book and that exactly is the purpose and vision of the book. He seeks to replace the negativities in life with a positive outlook through the medium of prayer and faith. Dr Peale was a minister by occupation and this has aided him in bearing witness to the many sufferings there is and as he himself states that the sheer volume if published as a book could be consider as the account of all human suffering. This very aspect of his occupation has also helped him witness many miracles and has shown him what the human spirit can achieve ones it is determined to so so. This book is a guide to help realize that potential.

That being said one of the greatest back-draws that I experienced when reading the book was also culminating from the fact Dr Peale was a minister and that his proximity to his religion and its intricacies. The book is full of references to Bible, anecdotes, events and stories from the Bible and the christian religious world view. Now I don't mean to say that the book is a christian doctrine, but any person totally unaware or illiterate of the christian world view would find it hard to comprehend and fully appreciate the wisdom of Dr Peale.

Peale at length talks about the importance of faith and the power and potential of the human spirits and all the chapters in the book is directed towards discovering that potential and that faith. He asks for unflinching faith and he preaches of the enormous life altering strength that is dormant in every one of us. he seeks to liberate that strength by means of prayer and faith. He believes and with the aid of several examples from his life and the ones he touched emphasizes on to the reader this belief of his.

The whole essence of the book can be found in the phrase "Be filled with love and faith" and he prophesies that all your vows will be gone once that is achieved. The book is an excellent guide to any one who finds himself in a doldrum and seeks to escape that impasse. Once you are willing to look deep into the elements of christianity in this book and seek out its meaning and why he choses to use it, this becomes and excellent guide but even without that all you have to do look beyond them and the book will serve its purpose, and will help navigate you through your life.

The Story of Amazon.com by Sara Gilbert

“The Story of Amazon.com in a nutshell”, that is what this book could easily and accurately be described as. To begin with the book is short and matter of fact; it covers almost all of the things that have happened in its 19 year existence. It covers the rise of Amazon.com and the perils it faced in the process. All the major milestones that the company achieved have also been covered. In short it tells a short story about amazon.com and how it came to be.

Sara Gilbert has done a commendable job in confining the whole story of amazon.com to a mere 65 pages and that is counting the illustrations as well. The story is kept really trim and most of the details irrelevant and not is kept out. In fact the “Story of Amazon.com” is a de-facto account of the evolution of amazon.com and leaves out any personal touch to it. There is no explorations to into the lives of Mr. Bezos nor of any one otherwise connected to the Amazon Story.

Sara does draw our attention to the various problems that the company faced and the long years it spent without ever turning any profit and the dark times it endured during the dot com burst. The hardships are again stated matter of factly and how the company managed to survive these treats not presented inspirationally either. But she does get her points and facts correct and she doesn’t leave anything either except what really helped Amazon.com become an industry leader in its domain. I would personally feel better had the book been a little longer and contained more about the rise of Amazon.com from the American dream perspective. But then again this book is not the ardent analyst, but for the young reader who could learn a lot about entrepreneurship and innovation form the story of Mr. Bezos.

The one thing I especially liked and is quite fascinating about the book is the amount of pictures that they have put in, they can on their own merit tell you the story of amazon.com and they complement the book rather well. One can just browse through these pictures and read the side notes left here and there in the book and understand the whole story that Sara is trying to say. Sara Gilbert has created a rather light hearted book that could be read with nothing more than just the willingness to open the first page, the rest is a fast and well aided journey through the 19 years of amazon.com, more like a tour of the whole thing.

Sara Gilbert clearly has her audience cut out, and she has made it clear that this is not for the serious corporate researcher in you but for the casual reader who would enjoy a little information and may be do with a little inspiration from it too. In fact this is exactly the kind of book I would gift my adolescent son just to get him to read a book.

The Lost Childhood

Children Playing in Rain, Bangladesh

Do you remember your juvenile days, the time when the whole world was full of wonder and possibilities? The time when the whole world was just perfect and everything was just a thought away? The truth is most of us cant, if I were a wee bit wrong and I do wish I was wrong, we could have seen a whole lot of people trotting along the streets smiling happy smiles. If I were wrong we could have seen unknown people playing with each other and there would have been no disgust or bias based on colour, race or faith. Every evil is the work of an adult, the child is not tainted, the child knows no distinction, and for a child all are one and the same. With age we learn to bias, discriminate and demarcate!

Let me tell you something that happened on my train journey yesterday, I was travelling on a train to home in a relatively full cabin. There was a young couple, an old man, a middle aged professional and then there was me. A rather weird mix of people that under no circumstances would strike up a conversation with each other but it so happened that in this particular journey we were meant to be more than just polite  in our conversations but friendly enough to play together. There was a girl, A sweet, cute angel with a flower the size of a lotus stuck to her hair bow and a smile that could melt the world away. She talked to us every one of us and before we knew we were cracking jokes playing at each other’s expense and mocking each other. What had happened for such a remarkable transformation to occur to a very strange group of people?

The truth is, the kid happened, her innocence transcended our hearts and heads, her innocent melted away any discrimination and disgust we would have carried, it annihilated whatever it was that prevented us from talking to each other. In her presence we were becoming children poking her, making faces, mimicking her stories and acclimating to her emotions. She made us able to see through life with clarity, without prejudices, an ability that we have lost in a very distant past. It’s a shame that we can’t live the life of a child always. Wouldn’t it be amazing had we been able to remain a child forever, an age of mind where your biggest sadness was not getting candy and your days always started with sunshine and ended in fairytales? An age when we were willing to believe in magic, fairytales, magic and fairies. An age characterized by an ability to trust and love unconditionally.

I believe we need to reclaim our childhood if we are to live life to our fullest. I believe when we lose all childishness and child-likeness in ourselves that’s when we really become old. It is possible and it is achievable, to be like a child, it is possible to keep an open mind and it is possible to love and trust unconditionally. We need to understand the child in us and keep it alive inside us. Life is too short to be not a child. Ask yourself if being in the presence of  a child is enough to make you childlike then would it be hard to be childlike all your life if you tried.

The Drought...

It strikes me gravely, to write such as this. This is not ability to write that I share but the inability to do so. It is no story of real drought and hunger that affect many a millions in this world. This is the story of just a single person starved on the keyboard. This is no story, in fact this is the absence of any story that I would like to share.

I must be frank, this is just a weeping. This certainly is going to be a boring piece to read. It has no happiness in it at all. No happy beginning, no happy happenings and certainly no happy endings that I know of. This is the grim story of myself and my pen, sitting together to write nothing. Its our explorations in the dark unfathomable shadows that we fear the most. If the darkness is what that scares the least, its the fearfully personal happenings that seemed to carve in the most.

Its been sometime, sometime now that the pen and paper had shown any mercy to me. No matter what I start writing I inevitably bump into that invisible wall that separates me from making any sense of what I write. Either I end up making a hash of it or even worse I end up stuck in the middle with both my pen and my mind refusing to budge a single inch. Its certainly not the lack of ideas or topics, but its the matter of the flow, no longer can I caress the piece of paper with ease and it has started to show.  All those brilliant sparks die out the miserable death leaving me to fend on my own. Talk about being ditched by myself.

I do not know how long its going to be, till I can get a hold of myself and come back to the good old times. I can but only hope that it will all be alright, Anything more is too much to ask for. One thing is certain it has came back every single time it has happened to me. May be its inside somewhere in the hiding and if I look hard enough and let myself be inspired by life around me, then certainly it would come back one day

The Things Around You.

Its is often a bit too much to ask for to have the ability to observe. It gives great option to the things that you see every day, adding a new level of detail to the monotonous. The way one sees the world is entirely different from that of any other, this subtle but crucial difference make them poles apart on many a occurrences. May be this is what we mean by the word 'perspective'. And we do know that perspective changes the world around us.

One way it can touch our life has a significance that surpasses Many things, your perspective can alter things in such a great manner that we owe a very large slice of ourselves to it. The way we see and interpret things shape the way we think, the way we think dictates how we act and respond to a wide range of things and finally the way we act out makes us who we are.

Many things may add to this making of a man and those have been debated upon for times immemorial and rest assured we wont be finished with it any time soon. But as of now that is not we started out with, have we ? I apologies to have got carried away but still that was worth it, like the good old times!

The ability to observe can in itself be a sin or curse, it becomes just a question how we come to deal with it. These sides of the coin I have seen just enough times  to have come in terms with. The large part of it may be just a prick in the hand, but some go real deep, sometimes a bit too much for your comfort. The things you see can bring within you a vibrant set of colourful feelings, from the light ones of joy to think ones of fear and angst. This vibrant world is put open to all but many shut their eyes to the dark ones and eventually the lighter ones too disappear. So naive are some that their life is but a gruesome monotone to live. Their is a world of rainbows they trade off for the fear of a dark one they have not yet been condemned to. Its such a shame that the fear of a few

It is even more creulsome to watch man after man chose not to feel, man after many take What is not life but a life that destroys any vibrate the word still holds. It is so sad to watch men waste the life of a dreams for the pretence of security.

But for the few who chose to see there is matter of great significance that they have to perform , they have to chose. They have to chose what to see and what to think of what they have seen, they have to chose what is that, that they have to take and what is that, that they have to un-see.  Those who whose to see the darkness turn up to be abominations of the sense those colours seems to posses., and the others who have opted to be on the brighter side of the place, gets to be the ones to set it all right again. To have chose is a quest of Philosophical value yet again.

The Burden of Command

To wield these stars and to hold his medals, to don this cap and to fill this chair. There are many things in life that may be happy but this is not one of those. To do is not an option, it is the only thing that destiny has in store. Either this or walk away. The latter is worse than death. The Command has its power and its status so does it has a large baggage that has to be dragged to ones grave. Nor the salutes nor the Laurels does anything to ease the pain, but persists an humble remainder of all that is to be dragged along alone.

There are times when the facets are to be put up, even when you desperately desire that you would be spared, you have to do it. The dictum is such that the failure to perform is unacceptable, even when it means to put everything you believe in to put at the front line. There are times when great men will be fools and hearts of steel will start to melt. No matter how high the principles be held, the man in the matter is but human. There are times heart remains a heart and there are times the head refuses to comply. But still the weights upon ones should bear down you as albatrosses from yet another tale.

Leadership is a quality that is tested and retested every now and then. It is not the making of the man it is breaking of man again and again such that he is immune to this pain of severance. To remain intact at times of peril is not an option, not when there are men who depend on you, not when they look up to you and not when they refuse to bow down just because you manage to hold it together, it is a necessity. The life that is yours is no longer just yours, there are other who willingly surrendered theirs to yours, just because they do believe it you who can hold their together with far more force than they can. They believe in you and with that come responsibility. You are not you anymore you are the culmination of all their interests and the holder of the higher truth.

It is not for you to not to fail, It is for you to fail as equally as it is for you to win. It is about you never letting them down, who willingly let themselves be lead. It is for you to never give up on anyone and hold it up for them; It is for you to see the light when the herd has lost its eye. It is for you not to believe but make believe the ones behind. To lead is a great feeling, but it is not about the celebration but about conducting it so that everyone can enjoy and in their enjoyment you can enjoy. It do feel great.

One thing that is asked of the leader that is most difficult to perform is the use of the whip. There are times, times you are given no other resort, but to crack the whip. Every single act of harshness you provide has a toll on you, every now and then you have to raise your voice there is a part of you sinking. To love is to be a good leader but to beat them up and make them strong calls for a great leader. He can inspire and so he can command, He can praise them and with the same hand crack the whip upon them. Yet at the hands of a great leader they feel no pain nor no grudge just the desire to correct themselves and lead a path of righteousness. Their feelings have to be upheld and they protected, but at the same time a mask is forced upon our face that shields the real one with a sterner perfect leader.

Yes it calls for a great leader so do should one selves, none is made a leader they are born, not from the mother’s womb but from the amongst of you and I. There is a leader in every one of us, a leader who shall rise when the time calls for him. When he is really to fly, he shall rally men and pick up momentum. When this do happen to you, call upon him , cheer him, cherish him because he not only can change you but can change the world.

Breaking Away . . .

Severance is a pain that we all invest in. Every day, every hour, Year after year we live in its shadow. It’s not something we choose it’s something that’s forced upon us. Yet chose not to rebel, we conveniently forget to fight, we take it on our shoulder and bear with it with finesse. The matter is delicate often so delicate that acknowledging it in itself is a herculean task in itself. The pain and anxiety that it causes is great, yet we decide it’s not time to give up hope yet.

It causes immense pain, but why do me, you and everyone we know prefer to live with it and fear the freedom the lack of these chains offer. Why does freedom, boundless and absolute, of colors more vibrant than the rainbows scare us? Why do we prefer the strong yet ephemeral fortitudes to the wonderful world of boundless possibility?  These are not the questions we ask ourselves every day; these are the question we come across in those times that we are truly left on our own. These are question we ask when we truly at our weakest. These are questions we ask when we lose those things we endured all those torture for. These are the questions we ask when we actually realize the transience of our ‘Perfect World’. The questions are harmless in a way, but they are the ones that truly know when to strike.

But no matter how many time we come across, other than those few who turn unacceptable to the society finds their way back into the cobwebs of comfyness they have already knitted for them. They find their way back as the lost ant finds it way back into the swarm. The allure and pseudo -opulence this world offers seems to surpass the many flaws it seems to possess.  We never even bother to ask ourselves whether this is what they want. Is there heart to torn open again and again? Is the abyss the best place they can ever afford to have?

Then again, is that the case? Even when you feared the inevitable, there was hope, there was pleasure and there was happiness. The little things in life that many preach, Aren’t they the ones that make life worthwhile. Life many not be perfect, in fact life may not be even fair, yet there are those moments in life that gives joy sans boundaries. Aren’t we living for those few moments, aren’t we working hard in the day so that we could return to the loving families. Don’t those weekends with the family make as pray every hour for the week to get over. Be it the sip of coffee or that one game, Aren’t they what we live for? Yes there are perils, there are dangers and there are evil lurking in every corner, yet don’t we live for that all these, these few little things that make life worth living?

But remember one thing dear friends, There is a better; life out there, there is a life where we can have the best of both worlds. There is a life were we do not have to make compromises and yet live the life that we dream of every single day. Believe me when I say there is a life where you don’t have to make up excuses to keep the family together. There is a life where love and fear, pleasure and sin, happiness and crime and Life and Lies do not come in pairs.

Surviving Today

Days are moving on at snail’s pace and to live through them is the most horrifying proposition to live with. The acts are not measurable in anything worth and time spend is not things gained. The methods are questionable but the object is clear. This would have been a better case had not been that the objective was to survive the day.

There are things you could do with your life that the whole world may deem as wastage of one’s time. But there are things that the world is yet to learn of you, there are secrets that are buried deep within you that the world doesn’t know exists. But one thing is there, one should be convinced of ones stand at the very least. It is difficult to convince others of a school of thought when one himself is in self-doubt. This conviction is what differentiates an action of need from an action of passion.

Passion has driven, and will drive men for many more years to come. It is this passion that has made the space and tech possible. The world when refuses to see you as someone, it is up to you to succumb to the marginalized life being proposed or you could rise above them and break free. You could do things with life that would show them that you are more than just talk. The world has ways, ways to kill of the things that it sees as competition. It is not a reason to not to try, it is but just one more reason to try harder and succeed.

Even as all that is said is said, there are time you become powerless, so powerless that you are confined to some mediocrity. There are places you find yourself, where you have to live through it, even if it is fathoms below your level of performance. To live through them is a horror for some. But for some it does something even more sinister. It kills them. It kills their skill and eventually they realize they are just that good. They refuse to see their potential that they once knew they possessed. They suicide to the demeaning life.

It is at this time, I stand. With thoughts creeping in like weeds. Thoughts that can take out the mighty and get them begging on their knees. The evil ones, the bad ones and the crippling ones. I know I am good, I know I am better than most, but to hold on to that single haystick in the polluting ocean of thoughts. Now that is a challenge. I can rise above it and be crowned the next king of France of fall below and drown to the dark depths of misery and monotony. The melancholically of this life is evident, Sun neither rises here nor the moon basks us in its radiance. The eeriness of a graveyard and the loneliness of the dark forests. With nothing but the skies to guide. To live through today… Hmm that’s the task ahead.

Daffodils in Life’s way

Many a daffodils laughed upon the little road by a brook, many a birds chirped upon the humble grass they fed on. Many waves lashed the shores and many a winds sang the song of nature. But marched on the soldiers of today, dreaming. A world of tomorrow they lost for the world of today they had

How many has a seen a daffodil? Many have I suppose, but how many has a seen a daffodil today? Not many I should think. Where did these daffodils go? Did they just vanish or had they all withered. But neither had happened, the truth is you just did not see them today, they were there and they were still blossoms but they were not seen. These daffodils are like shadows they appear and go but they are hardly noticed.

Often in life the most memorable are memories of small things. These little things that you have seen and you have heard will play a role in life that no big things will. The beauty of remaining fall is that they shall be only discovered by the wise. The intelligent has sight but only the wise knows where to look. The little things you have done for someone and the little things they did it for you are all in the package. The amount and magnitude of things are secondary to the way it was done for you.

Those small moments of love and that instant of a smile, aren’t those that you cherish more that the grades you scored in 1oth grade?

But somehow along the line, people forget what they seek and they pursue things they think they want. They forget to see what the daffodils along the way by looking up at the crowd ahead. They do fail to realize that if they won’t be finding happiness along the way they hardly will find it at the end of the journey. Everyone should now and then halt and take a look around. They will be bewildered by the sings they see by simply looking at them.

Everyone I would like to tell you something, when on any journey make sure that you take a time out for yourself, you can discover answers to many complex questions by simple looking at the world around us. Nature is a great teacher and an ultimate adobe of all information. But after all make sure to see the daffodils before you walk away.

Looking up at the Stars . . .

" We are all in the gutter , But some of us are looking at the stars.  "
   -- Oscar Wilde

Wonderful isn't it ? The night sky!. It is something that never fails to fascinate. So  Adorable, So magnificent, as if someone had accidentally dropped a million diamonds upon the black sky. They dance and the sway, they twinkle and they smirk. They make u look up at them with awe, with fascination. Nothing has inspired men like the stars if you would not count " love ". But unlike " love " the stars makes you desire, envy them in an entirely diffident manner, May be its because underneath you are aware of the impracticality in achieving it. Never the less. men has always chased stars and chased it quite far too.

Where is a child in all the worlds, who has looked up at the night sky and not desired a stellar speck of his own. No wonder men compare their dream to the stars, those are as special as it gets. I remember Carl Schurz  who once said stars are like ideals, never to be achieved but to be followed. Sure every one of us know that one is never going to have a star, but does that stop them from dreaming of having one? Of course not!.

To have a dream is very fundamental, To compare it to the stars. A life without a dream is a sky with no stars.

I still remember when i used to gaze up at the stars. As the many dreamers i know, and the many millions i do not know, the thing that's going to separate the men from the boys definitely is whether they believe they can actually capture the " STAR "!

Discovery of Passion Within !

There are times in one mans life when he actually does things for himself, There are things that are done because they give you sheer joy. There are time when it is passion that drives you. These are the times when your work starts talking by themselves. All of a sudden you have a master piece sitting right in front of you that you never ever realized or believed you could create and you do certainly doubt creating one ever again. We all do have our moments. But the real problem seems to be recreating them.

To have our little "eureka" moments time and again is a tremendous feat or so our belief, actually it is not!. It is very possible that we can continue to create master pieces one after the other, as if they were coming out of a production line. How to do it ?. Now that's a very reasonable question to ask. A straight forward and obvious question, but the answer seems largely vague. To hit the target once is one thing, but to hit it consistently is an entirely different matter. But if are able to strike the right note every once in a while then with a little bit of dedicated soul searching , One can discover the musician in himself. To be able to discover it requires effort and a great deal of planning as well.

I have no interest what so ever in making this sound like a herculean task, because it is not . It is rather simple and very naive. All you have to do is believe, believe that you can do it and your problems are solved. Let me guess! you are not impressed. Now, that is the real problem. Even when the way is clear it is not always easy to follow the road, The problems faced in execution are two. A little starting trouble or way too much distractions.

To get you started is the most fundamental part of any venture, So is it to discovering your passion. You are reaching no where if you never get started. The fundamental part is to get the belief that you can do it. Once the stone gets rolling it will keep on doing so. But even before starting on the journey one should identify what is it that he intends to attain from the journey. If you are sure of the goals you  are sure to get them, One definitely need to be doing something that he thinks he is passionate about. Trying to unlock the passion for something that one considers to be mundane is mundane.

Select your task and prepare oneself to be amazed ones on deeds. Unlock all the courage that have been mustered up for this and get going. be daringly innovative and how can one do that, just don't keep any of your fabulous ides to oneself as you can never be sure which of your "foolish" idea is going to be the global trend setter tomorrow. To passion will unlock and release itself once one has the belief in oneself and  is doing what he is passionate about.

See a dancer or a singer perform , observe they do it for the love of the thing they do . no body is forcing on them then they are able to tap into the potential locked deep inside them. They have discovered the way to it, for them it is their art. so shall one discover the passion in the things they do for themselves.

Anyone and everyone can perform great feats, they are capable of miraculous things. Once aware of ones true potential and capability and confident of it great work can be done. Just most people are born , live and eventually die unaware of what they are capable of, what they could have achieved. They end up believing that all great men are born different. Of course, they are different, Its not that they are born different, they think different, believe different and see different. They are everything that everyone are capable of, but had failed to realize their potential or have given up long before they stared trying.

Humans are great species capable species. All of us are part of this magnificent creation of god and are capable in equal quantities. All is that one should hear their true calling and be bold enough to chase their dreams. Life is short and life is great. Waste it not Live it .

So she came and So she went : My fist love

True Love happens once some say, and some say love is just a discovery and just like any discovery, Its is the product of great persistence. I do fall under the latter school of thought. Some are truly lucky to find themselves getting right on the very first time and some just need to keep trying so hard that they loose themselves from love just before they discover it. I do believe that the discovery of love itself is so great a feeling, especially since in this world when many do die before they get a chance to taste something so pure.

When for the very first time, I got the taste of love i was in 8th grade, Being born where I am and being raised how I have been, it was altogether a different world for me. Love may be a breather, but it did suck hell out me, On that day, when the dew drops had hardly settled, the sun so warm, sitting by the cold metal window of the dreary school bus, I saw her. She was exceptional, something so magnificent to my eyes that I have seen none so exquisite and splendid that time slowed around me. My eyes followed her as she entered the bus and disappeared in the crowd. I still remembered how her dark hair flew with wind and how lips curled as the cold wind teased her cheeks and turned them rosy.

Its just wonderful what love does to you, There certainly is something in it that transcends yourselves and radiates itself to whole world. It will manifest in ways that you may have never imagined yourself. Some write some sing and some paint, they discover themselves in areas that may have once seemed alien for them. That matter set aside, the next few days went by so slow are so fragile, tranquility all around. I almost discovered my love for nature with it, I ended up appreciating all those small things that once I never saw. I enjoyed the sun and the rain alike, everything was so beautiful. Love lets you see things differently.
Every day I would rush to class sit in my desk and wait for her to walk in, Somehow my friends got the smell of it, but never knew the girl at least not until years later. I could hardly keep my eyes of her did everything possible to escape her gaze, and there i was fairly successful. You may ask why i was so scared in her catching me staring her. I too have no idea why it scared me so much, But of all the things that killed my sleep, this was the top scorer.

The end was not a very good one for this beautiful love story of mine, When after two years of desperately losing my mind on her I came up with courage to tell her my state of mind. She simply turned me down, That was so unbelievable when heard and that incident has for the very first time made me think of the words " being heartbroken ". The days that followed were very bad but some where down the lane i caught my reins and sat down to think. The process somehow enabled me to convince myself to let my wounds heal naturally. Those days i felt the prick like no other, What pains does a teen has to bear than that !, Those things that were taken so seriously feels so stupid now.

Thinking of those days i feel that the days in love and the days after the heart break both has taught me a lot, like any boy in the part of growing up , the ability to not to lose faith has served well. I will tell you why one should never lose faith, It is very possible that the heartbreak may be just the beginning of something wonderful and if it is so, how can you be sure of being damned even before giving life a chance to make up ? As wonderful as love is so is the small things that are taught by it.

The sweet little girl i saw on that wet day is the image of my very first love, and as days and years have gone by, these memories has just got ever the more dearer. Later as I have gone on to find my real love over several years of break ups and patch ups I can only be thankful, for love and all the wonders it brought along.
